Silas Davis delivered the post in Mid Somerset for nearly 40 years between 1869 and 1908, walking 17 miles a day, six days a week and every other Sunday.

The book contains many photographs. 112 pages.

He became something of a local legend during his 33 years retirement.

The history of this remarkable Shepton Mallet resident was constructed from official Post Office records, census details, local press coverage and the memories of his many descendants. The route he would have taken for his deliveries is reconstructed and we meet his customers and examine the news and gossip he would have passed from house to house in the villages of Pylle and East Pennard.
